HOW WE GIVE
"Give and it shall be given
unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together, running
over shall be put in your lap. For the measure you give will
be the measure you get back."
.
. . . Luke
6:38
We believe this promise and it is a spiritual practice we strive to
demonstrate as a church, as well. Therefore, as a spiritual community, our giving
takes many forms.
One of the forms in which we practice giving is by being a tithing church. We
not only teach this principle, we engage in it. To us, tithing is the practice
of giving a portion of what we receive back to our community and those in need.
We view our practice of tithing
as a positive and active use of the "Law of Circulation," which is often referred
to as the "Law of Sowing and Reaping." Our tithe is the seed of gratitude that
we sow into the field of our good fortune, which is the Mind of God.
We are grateful
that we prosper, and we are grateful to share our prosperity with those who
have spiritually nurtured us.
Each month, NTCRS gives 10% of our collected donations
back to the sources of our spiritual inspiration. Some of the prior recipients
of our monthly tithes are:
- Religious Science International
- Religious Science International Youth
- Season for Non-Violence
- Christ Church of Co-Creation
- Graceful Living Ministries
- Unity World Day of Prayer
- Nova Tech
- Angel Tonk Music
- Karen Drucker
We also give charitably in order to help others. In this
way, we embody the principle of compassion.
It is through compassion
that we express our concern and love for others. It is through our compassionate
giving that we assist the larger community.
Each month NTCRS gives
10% of our other income to charitable organizations in our community;
in doing so, we support the vitally important work that they are doing.
Some
of the prior recipients of our monthly compassionate giving are:
- Jimmy Huega Center
- Tahoe Forest Hospice
- Lake Tahoe Music Festival
- Tahoe Special Olympics
- Adaptive Ski School
- North Tahoe Firefighters Association
- Tahoe Women's Services
- Placer County Sheriff's Association
- Truckee Senior Center
- Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation
- KidZone Museum
- North Tahoe Business
- Project MANA
- Tahoe Ministerial Association
- Snow Festival
In addition to giving a portion of our financial good to the larger community, we believe that giving of our time is equally as important.
